Sergio A. VeLarde joined the Law Office of Robert B. Jobe in April 2014. Sergio’s primary practice focuses on asylum law and representation in Immigration Court.
Sergio grew up in La Paz, Bolivia, and thanks to an academic scholarship, received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill. During law school, Sergio worked as an intern for various federal agencies and non-profit legal organizations, in both regulatory and civil areas of law.
Sergio also attended Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands, where he received his LL.M. in European Human Rights Law, after receiving a generous scholarship from the Dutch Government. His thesis was a legal and economic analysis of European Court of Human Rights opinions regarding social welfare rights. He dealt with several decades of opinions and correlated the Court’s shifting attitudes to the changing economic orientation of the judges and their culture.
Originally from Bolivia, Sergio is interested in helping clients smoothly transition, both legally and personally, into U.S. society. As a San Francisco resident, Sergio is also interested in developing partnerships and collaborating with local technological start-ups in developing novel approaches to the layperson’s understanding of the law, to make legal concepts and jargon more accessible to indigent communities.
In his spare time, Sergio enjoys literature, running, traveling, playing the flamenco guitar, and exploring beautiful San Francisco. He is fluent in Italian and Spanish and a member of the California State Bar.
