Gabriela holds a Master of Arts degree in journalism and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from New York University. There she focused on immigration studies and published her reporting on Central American gang-based asylum claims. She is an honors graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied sociology and Latin American and Iberian studies. Gabriela has extensive experience working with immigrant communities as a bilingual educator in Oakland public schools and as an immigration reporter before that.

Gabriela grew up as the daughter of Argentine immigrants exiled because of the 1970s Dirty War and she is passionate about human and immigrants’ rights.
